Have you ever met a land walrus?
Meet Gemma. She is a Mini Walrus (Beagle/Shar Pei mix), is very sweet and is a bundle of energy. Gemma is very smart and figured out the doggie door right away. She loves playing with her siblings and her foster brothers and doesn’t seem bothered by our cat. She smells the cat when we hold her but doesn’t try to chase her and seems to respect her space. They haven’t been together in the same space yet (the cat roams about outside the corral enclosure we have in place to keep them separated) but I don’t think she will chase. She has no problem using the doggie door and when it’s closed, she sits by the sliding door waiting to be let out. She sleeps with her sibling’s downstairs in a 36” tall corral (we put 2 together to give them some space) and barks if she has to go out.
Most of the time, she makes it all the way through the night but now and again she gets up once in the night, barks to let us know and goes back to bed until about 5am. She is such a good girl. Sometimes, we separate all the siblings for a break (the grown-ups need some quiet time) and she does fine in the crate. Gemma is very social with people and would love a family and will do best with another medium to large buddy to play with. She hasn’t been around little children yet but has no problem with other people that come into the house. We think she will be a large mid-size dog and is currently about 28 lbs. She learned to sit the first time we tried it and she will need a family that interacts with her to keep her mind active. She is a very curious girl. A big yard with a 6ft fence is a plus. Her birthday is 11/28/2021.
