Maven (pronounced may-vin) is a 3 year old female Black & Tan Hound. She weighs a lean 50 lbs. and is made up of two equal parts: One being sweet gushy puppy dawg love, and the other is unexplained fearfulness. Her perfect person is someone willing to take each step in earning her trust with love, PATIENCE, and understanding. Maven needs a person willing to put themselves and their timeline in the back seat. If you are that person then you are going to experience the love of an incredible dog!
Maven is most comfortable around women but will warm up to men who are willing to give her lots of space. A few examples of things that spook Maven are: a loud sneeze, sustained eye contact, when someone opens or closes the dishwasher, a chair being pushed out, seeing something large like a box or load of laundry being carried through the house, and of course strangers. Maven reacts to these terrifying things by running to another room to hide, so providing her with a safe, secluded space to eat and rest is crucial.
Being gentle, kind, and refraining from punishment will improv Maven’s progress greatly, and is a must to be considered as an adopter. She has already become desensitized to many triggers and any other form of treatment toward her will be absolutely detrimental. She has the softest heart ever and wears her feelings really close to the surface.
Her favorite thing to do is go for walks and take naps in the backyard. She proudly knows how to use a dog door and would do best in a home where she has unlimited access to the yard. She will greet her person at the door with her unique hound dog bay, her wiggly butt, and nudging wet nose. Maven is truly at her best when with other dogs. On any given day you can find her in her backyard running, romping, and wrestling with her foster brothers and sisters. It would make Maven really really happy to have a full-time playmate.
